The theme this week is trust: who has it, who’s abusing it, and how fast it evaporates. Amazon exploiting seller pricing, Google handing data to ICE, a supply-chain attack hiding in WordPress plugins you already installed. Even the AI story is a trust story: we trusted abundance would last forever, and now scarcity is changing the rules.

New unsealed records reveal Amazon’s price-fixing tactics, California AG claims California’s AG has unsealed hundreds of internal Amazon documents (emails, depositions, corporate presentations) alleging the company systematically pressured third-party sellers to raise prices on competing platforms like Walmart and Target, ensuring Amazon always appeared cheapest, even if the difference was a single penny. The allegation is that Amazon used its marketplace dominance to control pricing across platforms it doesn’t own. If you sell through Amazon or compete with sellers who do, the question to sit with is straightforward: how much of your pricing architecture is actually yours, and what happens to it if this case reshapes the rules?

US Bill Mandates On-Device Age Verification The Parents Decide Act (H.R. 8250), introduced by Rep. Josh Gottheimer, would require every OS vendor (Apple, Google, and others) to verify the age of anyone setting up a new device in the US. To confirm a child is under 18, the system has to identify everyone else too. That means every adult who sets up a new device in the US gets swept in. The pattern I keep seeing: a real harm (child safety) gets named, a sympathetic victim gets centered, and the proposed fix quietly rebuilds infrastructure in ways that affect hundreds of millions of adults who were never the problem. If you sell devices, build apps, or collect user data in the US, the question to sit with is whether on-device age verification becomes the trojan horse for a national digital identity layer, and what that means for your product roadmap, compliance costs, and customer trust.

AI Industry Moves

The beginning of scarcity in AI GPU rental prices for Nvidia’s Blackwell chips jumped 48% in two months, CoreWeave is extending minimum contracts to three years, and Anthropic has restricted its newest model to roughly forty organizations. This is a supply chain crisis, and it’s changing who gets to build with frontier AI. OpenAI’s CFO openly admits they’re abandoning projects because they can’t get enough compute. The downstream effect is stark: access to state-of-the-art AI is becoming relationship-based and price-gated, which means large incumbents with existing cloud commitments and deep pockets will pull further ahead while startups and mid-market companies get squeezed out. The question I’d be sitting with is whether your current compute commitments and provider relationships will be enough to execute your AI roadmap twelve months from now.

AI & Software

Claude Opus 4.7 Anthropic’s latest model targets the specific pain point that matters most to engineering organizations right now: unsupervised complex coding. Opus 4.7 is pitched as the model you can hand difficult, long-running software tasks without babysitting. It verifies its own outputs before reporting back, which is a meaningful shift from AI as assistant to AI as delegated worker. The upgrade also includes sharper vision and better output quality for professional artifacts like slides and docs, though Anthropic is transparent that its more powerful Claude Mythos Preview remains the broader capability leader. The product direction is clear: Anthropic is optimizing for trust in autonomous execution, not just benchmark performance. That’s the gap that actually blocks enterprise adoption. The question to sit with is whether your engineering workflows are structured to take advantage of models that can genuinely own a task end-to-end, because that’s clearly where this is heading.

Claude Design Anthropic just shipped a visual design tool inside Claude (think slides, prototypes, one-pagers) powered by a new model called Claude Opus 4.7. The bigger shift is for everyone who isn’t a designer: founders, PMs, marketers who previously needed to either learn Figma or wait in a design queue. The gap between “I have an idea” and “here’s something polished enough to share” just got a lot shorter. The question I’d sit with: if producing high-fidelity visual work becomes as easy as describing what you want in a conversation, what happens to the bottleneck that currently gates how fast your teams can move from concept to decision?

Cloudflare Email Service Cloudflare is positioning email as the default interface layer for AI agents, launching a unified service that lets developers route inbound email to agents and send replies programmatically (no custom chat apps or SDKs required). Rather than building bespoke conversational UIs, the companies moving fastest on agentic AI are grafting their agents onto the communication channel everyone already uses. If this gains traction, the competitive moat for customer-facing AI shifts from interface design to workflow orchestration, and the question becomes whether your existing email infrastructure is a foundation or a bottleneck.

Privacy & Governance

Google broke its promise to me – now ICE has my data Google handed a Ph.D. student’s data to ICE in response to an administrative subpoena, without notifying him first, violating its own longstanding policy of giving users a chance to challenge law enforcement requests before compliance. None of Google’s stated exceptions applied; ICE simply asked Google not to notify the user, and Google obliged a non-binding request as though it were a court order. The EFF has now filed complaints with the California and New York Attorneys General alleging deceptive trade practices. The exposure extends beyond Google. Any company whose privacy commitments live in policy documents rather than enforceable architecture is in the same position. If a single informal government request is enough to override a published user promise, the question every leader holding vendor contracts should be asking is: what exactly are your providers’ privacy guarantees actually worth under pressure?

Ban the sale of precise geolocation Citizen Lab’s investigation into Webloc, an adtech surveillance product now sold by U.S. firm Penlink, reveals a system claiming access to location records from 500 million mobile devices globally, built entirely on the commercial data broker ecosystem, not government wiretaps. The core problem isn’t one bad actor; it’s that the entire adtech supply chain treats precise geolocation as just another commodity, meaning any company’s employee movements, executive travel patterns, and facility activity are already being packaged and sold to whoever can pay. If your organization relies on mobile devices in any capacity (and it does), the question isn’t whether this data exists about your people, but who’s already buying it.

Someone bought 30 WordPress plugins and planted a backdoor in all of them An attacker purchased a portfolio of 31 WordPress plugins on Flippa for six figures, then quietly injected backdoors into all of them, compromising every site running those plugins through a malicious “analytics” module that phoned home and planted malware in core files like wp-config.php. WordPress.org eventually force-updated the affected plugins, but the backdoor had been dormant for eight months before activation, meaning the cleanup window was already behind most site owners. This is the supply chain problem in its clearest form: the threat was a change in who owns the code, not a vulnerability in it. If your business runs on WordPress (and a surprising number of enterprise marketing sites still do), the question isn’t whether your plugins are up to date, it’s whether you’re tracking who owns them and what happens when that changes.

Cybersecurity looks like proof of work now Anthropic built an LLM called Mythos so effective at finding software vulnerabilities that they withheld public release, giving critical software makers time to harden their systems first, and independent analysis from AISI largely backs up the claims. The core insight here is that exploit discovery is a well-defined search problem, exactly the kind of task you can brute-force with millions of tokens, which means cybersecurity is starting to resemble an arms race measured in compute spend. The question now is whether your defense budget can outpace what an attacker is willing to spend on inference, and if it can’t, how fast that gap closes.
